DIY: Chain Face Mask Chain
Wearing a mask everyday is a new normal that looks like it is here to stay. I regularly wear glasses and fogged up lenses are a big struggle. Therefore, I remove my mask the moment it’s safe to do so. I’ve been struggling with what to do with my mask once I leave a building. Do I keep it on, throw it in my purse, pull it down over my nose and mouth, or have it hang from one ear? I’ve found the solution with mask chains. Similar to croakies, remember those? A mask chain clips onto your mask loops and allows you to hang your mask conveniently around your neck.
Would you rather buy a face mask chain? They are now available for purchase in our shop. You can purchase one here!
What you need:
Lobster clasp that matches chain color
Jump rings that match chain color *make sure you get jump rings that can fit through the lobster clasp loop
Wire cutters (the ones I used came in the set with the pliers)
Ruler
Measure and Cut the Chain.
I used 20 inches of chain. Cut the chain at the link ahead of your planned final link. The easiest place to cut the link is where it was soldered closed. You may also need pliers to pry the space wider.
Attach Jump Ring to Clasp.
Open the jump ring using the pliers. It is easiest to offset the jump ring left to right. In the image you can see how the jump ring looks crooked rather than just wider. Slide the open jump ring through the clasp loop,
Attach the clasp to the chain.
On the same jump ring attach the end of the chain. Close the jump ring using pliers.
Follow the same steps on the other end of the chain.
