DIY: Ribbon Face Mask Chain
Wearing a mask everyday is a new normal that looks like it is here to stay. I regularly wear glasses and fogged up lenses are a big struggle. Therefore, I remove my mask the moment it’s safe to do so. I’ve been struggling with what to do with my mask once I leave a building. Do I keep it on, throw it in my purse, pull it down over my nose and mouth, or have it hang from one ear? I’ve found the solution with mask chains. Similar to croakies, remember those? A mask chain clips onto your mask loops and allows you to hang your mask conveniently around your neck. This ribbon version is the easiest face mask chain to make. I outline four ways to make it in this post.
Would you rather buy a face mask chain? They are now available for purchase in our shop. You can purchase one here!
What you need:
Fabric Ribbon
Lobster claw keyring Michaels does not have the ones that I purchased in person online. I’m linked a similar one.
You only need one from this list: glue gun, super glue, needle and thread, sewing machine
Measure and cut ribbon
Measure the amount of ribbon you want to use. I wanted the finished product to be about 20 inches long. So I measured and cut 25 inches of ribbon.
Loop the ribbon through the ring. Pull about 1.5 inches through.
Version 1: Easiest
Tie the ribbon in place
Repeat on the other side of the ribbon.
Version 2: Easy
Glue Method
Either with a glue gun or super glue, glue the flap of the ribbon down on to the main length of ribbon.
Repeat on the other side of the ribbon.
Version 3: Intermediate
Hand Stitch Method
Pull the ribbon through the lip like on the previous methods. Hand stitch the flap to the main length of ribbon. Either do it as a line across the bottom or in an X across the square flap.
Repeat on the other side of the ribbon.
Version 4: Expert
Sewing Machine Method
Pull the ribbon through the lip like on the previous methods. Use a sewing machine to affix the ribbon flap to the main length of the ribbon.
Repeat on the other side of the ribbon.
