DIY: Pearl or Bead Face Mask Chain
Wearing a mask everyday is a new normal that looks like it is here to stay. I regularly wear glasses and fogged up lenses are a big struggle. Therefore, I remove my mask the moment it’s safe to do so. I’ve been struggling with what to do with my mask once I leave a building. Do I keep it on, throw it in my purse, pull it down over my nose and mouth, or have it hang from one ear? I’ve found the solution with mask chains. Similar to croakies, remember those? A mask chain clips onto your mask loops and allows you to hang your mask conveniently around your neck.
Would you rather buy a face mask chain? They are now available for purchase in our shop. You can purchase one here!
What You Need:
Beads or Faux Pearls or Pearls
Lobster Clasp and Crimp *Purchase the lobster clasp based on the thickness of your mask ear loops.
Scissors
Ruler
Measure String
I had 26 inches of beads so I measured 28 inches of string. In the end I only needed to do 20 inches of beads. If you want to do 20 inches of beads I would measure 22-24 inches of string.
Attach Lobster Clasp
Slide lobster clasp onto the string. Tie a knot right below the the clasp’s loop. Slide on 1 crimp bead.
Tuck the tail from the knot into the crimp bead.
Slide the crimp bead over the knot.
Squish the crimp bead with your pliers. This helps secure the knot.
Empty your beads into a bowl so that you don’t loose any.
String the Beads
String the beads onto the string. Make sure to tuck the tail from the knot into the hole of the first bead.
I put 20 inches of beads onto the string. You can go shorter or longer depending on your preference.
Add a crimp bead.
Add the lobster clasp.
Tie a knot just under the loop of the lobster clasp. Thread the tail of the knot through the crimp bead and into the preceding beads.
If you have a very long knot tail thread it through a couple of beads. Then cut the tail off.
